Diverse Sussex Eastbourne programme – 8 – 22 November 2018

Diverse Sussex Eastbourne programme – 8 – 22 November 2018

From an ancient African woman found on Beachy Head, World War I Afro-Caribbean and Indian Soldiers to notable Sussex’s figures past and present such as John Agard, Grace Nicholls and Sarah Forbes Bonetta, DIVERSE SUSSEX honours the hidden diversity of Eastbourne’s people and culture.

The programme will run from 8-22 November 2018 at DC1 Cafe & Gallery in Eastbourne.

Diverse Sussex Eastbourne includes a preview of the exhibition Constructed Geographies, a group show of 7 artists that each approach the theme differently. The exhibition will travel around Sussex in spring 2019.

The aim of the Diverse Sussex Eastbourne programme is to honour and celebrate Eastbourne’s rich cultural heritage and diverse communities in the area, where over 50 different languages are spoken in the Devonshire Ward of Eastbourne, where the DC1 Gallery is based.

The programme is part of a wider project seeking to capture people’s stories about coming to or growing up in Sussex and will form the first Hidden Sussex anthology, due to be published in June 2019 and supported by Arts Council England.

Produced by Writing Our Legacy, with support from Heritage Eastbourne, Brighton & Hove Black History, African Night Fever, Diversity Lewes, Take The Space and This Too Is Real.

Funded by Devonshire West Big Local and Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant.

The address for all activity is:  DC1 Cafe & Gallery, 67-69 Seaside Road, Eastbourne BN21 3PL

Latin Voices Live! 2014

November brings the usual assortment of ghoulish treats, and what better way to celebrate Dia De Los Muertos than to join a traditional Latin celebration, with a modern twist?

This year, we are pleased to be involved with two events – MEXSAS’s Dia De Muertos on 30 October at Sussex University campus and Ghost Worlds on Friday 28 November at Eastbourne’s Towner.

MEXSAS Dia De Muertos
